The Yooralla Art circle Art Initiative is the next stage of the Show-casing Ability Art Show that had its inaugural show in 2009, as part of Yooralla’s celebration of the International Day of People with Disability.
The organising committee consisting of representatives from across Yooralla’s services has reviewed the 2009 Art Show and developed a set of actions for 2010/2011
Some of the primary learnings included:
• High level of interest – 80 entries
• Need to have administrative support
• Need to look at alternative location
• Need for Yooralla artists representation on the organising committee
• Need space that enables artworks to be hung or 3D pieces to be safely displayed, with adequate lighting and space
Ideas that need to be explored:
• Public space in the CBD
• Pursue working in partnership
• Pursue a range of grants
• Create a virtual online Yooralla art presence.
Enable inclusion of multimedia artworks on the Yooralla website
• Develop a culture of continuous engagement in the Art initiative, across Yooralla services
Scope:
• Develop an initial 18 month plan to initiate a virtual Show-casing Ability website, culminating in an Art Show on the 3rd December, 2011 and to launch the concept as an ongoing event.
• The virtual environment “Art space” should be part of the Yooralla website. Artwork would be uploaded along with biographies of the artists
• There could be a separate area for the funded projects that shows the process and progress of the development of the artworks.
• Include committee and participant blogs.
• Have mutual links to other websites undertaking arts projects
